Privacy policy
This policy explains how Life EQ handles audio, app data, support messages and visits to this website.
Last updated:
1. Who is responsible
Life EQ is developed and operated by Luke Tucker, based in the Netherlands. Luke Tucker is responsible for the personal information handled in connection with Life EQ support and this website. In this policy, “we” and “us” refer to that business.
This policy covers Life EQ for macOS (including builds named Life EQ Pro) distributed through the Mac App Store and TestFlight, the website lifeeq.app, and our support service. For privacy questions or requests, email support@lifeeq.app.
2. Audio and microphone access
Life EQ accesses system audio so it can apply EQ and other audio processing, and display live analysis. This processing takes place on your Mac. The app does not save your system audio as recordings or upload it to us.
Microphone access is used for features you start, including speaker calibration, microphone level checks and live microphone analysis. Calibration audio is held temporarily in memory for analysis. Saved calibration sessions contain derived measurement results, not microphone recordings. These results are not automatically sent to us.
You control microphone and system-audio permissions in macOS System Settings → Privacy & Security. You can stop microphone analysis or measurement in the app, switch processing to STANDBY, or quit Life EQ. Revoking a permission makes the features that require it unavailable.
3. Data saved on your Mac
The app stores its settings, EQ presets, output-device assignments, imported microphone response data and saved calibration sessions in its local app storage. Device names and identifiers are used locally to recognise your selected audio hardware.
Exporting a calibration session saves a file to a location you choose. It can include measurement curves, microphone and output-device names, calibration settings and correction results. You decide whether to share that file. A folder you sync through iCloud or another service may be uploaded by that service under your own settings.
The current Mac App Store app does not operate a Life EQ cloud account, synchronise your settings to our servers, or send us usage analytics. It contains no advertising SDKs and does not track you across other apps or websites.
4. Support and diagnostics
When you email us, we receive your email address, the name shown in your email, your message, and any attachments or technical details you include. We use this information to answer questions, investigate faults, provide support and improve reliability.
Help → Copy Diagnostics copies app, macOS and audio-configuration details to your clipboard. It does not send them to us. The diagnostic summary excludes audio recordings, calibration measurements and preset names. Contact Support opens your email app; you choose what to include and whether to send it.
Our support mailbox uses Google Workspace. We may also use OpenAI tools to help understand a technical issue or prepare a reply. This can involve information you choose to send us, such as your message, diagnostic details or screenshots. These support tools do not receive your app’s live audio or automatically access data stored by Life EQ on your Mac.
Please review attachments before sending them and avoid including passwords, payment-card details or unrelated personal information.
We process information needed to provide requested product support to perform our contract with you, or take steps at your request before a purchase. For general enquiries, troubleshooting, service security and reliability improvements, we rely on our legitimate interests in operating and supporting Life EQ, taking your privacy rights into account. Where required, we also process information to meet legal obligations.
5. Website and service providers
Cloudflare hosts and delivers lifeeq.app. Visiting the website involves technical information such as your IP address, requested URL, request time and browser information being processed to deliver pages, maintain security and diagnose service problems. This is separate from the audio processing performed locally by the app.
We do not add advertising trackers or marketing cookies to this website. Our hosting provider may use technical logs and security mechanisms to operate and protect the service. We rely on our legitimate interests in providing a working, secure website for this processing.
Service providers used for hosting, email and support may process information outside the European Economic Area. Their privacy information describes their processing and international-transfer arrangements. You can contact us for information about the safeguards applicable to your request.
- Cloudflare privacy information — website delivery and security.
- Google privacy information — email services.
- OpenAI privacy information — tools that may assist with support.
We do not sell your personal information or use support correspondence for targeted advertising. Information may also be disclosed where required by law or necessary to address a legal claim. Following a link to another website makes that website’s own privacy practices applicable.
6. Apple services
Apple operates the Mac App Store, purchases, refunds, updates and TestFlight under its own terms and privacy practices. Life EQ does not receive your payment-card details.
Apple may provide developers with sales reports, app analytics, crash information or beta feedback under Apple’s services and your applicable settings. TestFlight feedback you submit can include contact information, screenshots and diagnostic information. The app does not include its own automatic crash-upload or analytics service.
See Apple’s privacy information for how Apple handles these services and the choices it provides.
7. Retention and deletion
On your Mac: settings and saved measurements remain in local storage until removed or replaced. You can remove saved items using the controls available in the app, and delete exported files yourself. Removing the application alone may leave its settings or backups behind. Contact support if you need help removing all local Life EQ data. We cannot remotely access or delete it.
Support: we retain correspondence and attachments for as long as needed to handle the request and related follow-up, investigate the reported issue, resolve disputes or meet legal obligations. The appropriate period depends on whether the issue remains open, whether the information is still needed for a related fault or claim, and any applicable legal retention requirement. You can request deletion when the information is no longer needed.
Service data: hosting logs and information held by email, support or Apple services are also subject to the relevant provider’s retention rules and applicable account settings. Backups and copies you keep or share separately are not deleted by removing an item from Life EQ.
8. Your privacy rights
Depending on the applicable law, you can request access to personal information we hold about you, correction, deletion, restriction of processing or a portable copy. You can object to processing based on legitimate interests. If processing relies on consent, you can withdraw that consent without affecting processing already carried out lawfully.
Send requests to support@lifeeq.app. We may ask for information reasonably needed to verify the request and will respond within the time limits required by law. We may need to retain some information to meet a legal obligation or deal with a legal claim.
You can complain to the Dutch Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens, or to the data-protection authority where you live or work. You can contact us first if you would like us to help resolve a concern.
9. Changes to this policy
We will update this page when our practices change and revise the date above. Material changes will be communicated as required by law, and we will request consent where it is required.
