Reporting a problem?
A few details help us understand your setup:
- Your Life EQ version and build, from About Life EQ or Settings.
- Your Mac model and macOS version.
- Your speakers, headphones, audio interface and microphone, including how they connect.
- What you were doing, what you expected and the exact error message, if there is one.
- A screenshot or short recording, if it helps show the issue.
Choose Help → Copy Diagnostics in the app and paste the details into your email. In earlier builds, look for Copy Diagnostics in Settings.
Review screenshots and diagnostics before sending, and include only information relevant to your request. Our privacy policy explains how we handle support messages, including tools that may help us investigate and reply.
Quick setup
- Choose your output. Select your speakers or headphones in macOS Sound settings.
- Start processing. Open Life EQ and press STANDBY to switch to ACTIVE. Allow system audio access when macOS asks.
- Set up EQ. Adjust filters manually or select a microphone and follow the Calibration steps.
Troubleshooting
Some controls may differ between beta versions.
I can’t hear audio, or my EQ isn’t changing the sound.
Check the output selected in macOS Sound settings, then confirm that Life EQ shows ACTIVE and correction EQ is set to EQ ON. Check the master output level, your speaker or headphone volume, and any mute controls.
In macOS System Settings → Privacy & Security, check that Life EQ has permission to capture system audio. The permission name varies by macOS version, and may appear under Screen & System Audio Recording. Restart Life EQ if macOS asks you to.
Run only one version of Life EQ at a time. Audio apps that use their own output routing may need to be set to your Mac’s default output. To return to normal playback while troubleshooting, switch Life EQ to STANDBY or quit the app.
My microphone isn’t showing up, or its level is wrong.
Connect the microphone or audio interface, then allow Life EQ access in System Settings → Privacy & Security → Microphone. In Calibration, select the correct input device and channel.
Use Check microphone level and adjust your speaker volume or interface gain until the live level is within the indicated region. Start at a modest speaker volume, keep the room quiet and avoid clipping. Once measurement starts, keep the gain and microphone orientation unchanged.
Do I need a measurement microphone?
No. For speaker calibration, you can use your Mac’s built-in mic or an iPhone available as a microphone input on your Mac. A measurement mic with its matching calibration file gives more accurate results. Manual EQ and Character EQ work without a microphone.
Built-in laptop and phone microphones can colour the measurement, and may use processing that changes their response. A generic microphone profile cannot guarantee the accuracy of your particular device.
A calibration sweep couldn’t be measured reliably.
Check that the sweep is audible through the intended speakers and that the selected microphone is receiving it without clipping. Pause other audio, reduce background noise and keep the microphone still at the requested listening position before retrying.
If you use AirPlay or another wireless output, mention that in your support report. Wireless playback adds delay and can behave differently between devices. Trying a wired output, if available, helps identify whether the problem is related to routing or wireless playback.
How do I import a microphone calibration file?
In Calibration setup, choose Import calibration file and select the actual response file, rather than the folder containing it. Use the manufacturer’s file for your microphone and the intended microphone orientation where available.
Supported formats include TXT, CSV, TSV, CAL, FRD, DAT, ASC, RTF, XLSX and ODS. The file must contain frequency and response values; a specification sheet, PDF, photo or renamed file is not a calibration file.
What’s the difference between Correction EQ and Character EQ?
Correction EQ compensates for the measured response of your speakers and room, or lets you build your own correction manually. Character EQ is a separate three-band EQ for adjusting the tonal balance to your taste.
Character EQ is bypassed during calibration measurements. You can enable it afterwards without editing your correction preset.
How do I save presets or switch them with my output?
Save a named correction preset using the correction EQ preset controls or File → Save Correction Preset. Character EQ presets are saved separately.
In Settings, use Output presets to add an output with the plus button, then choose a correction preset or STANDBY for it. Enable automatic switching to use those rules when the output changes. Saved rules stay in the list even while a device is disconnected.
How do I compare the corrected and original sound?
Start processing, play some audio and enable A/B. Choose the current EQ, original audio or a named correction preset for each side, and allow level matching to finish before comparing. Level matching reduces the volume difference between the two sources.
Which Macs are supported, and how do I update?
Life EQ requires an Apple silicon Mac and macOS 14.2 or later.
If you installed a beta through TestFlight, use TestFlight for updates. For a version installed from the Mac App Store, use the App Store’s Updates section. Include the version and build number when reporting a problem so we can check the exact release.
Where can I get help with a purchase?
Email support@lifeeq.app for product questions or help using Life EQ. App Store billing, payment and refund requests are handled by Apple through your Apple Account.
There’s no need to include payment card details in a support email.
