When the bass booms or the sound feels uneven, new speakers can seem like the answer. But every speaker plays into a room—and that room still has a say in what reaches your ears.

Before you upgrade,
listen to the room.

Good speakers matter. Yet even an excellent pair can sound unbalanced when reflections and resonances exaggerate some frequencies and weaken others. Changing speakers does not remove the room’s resonant frequencies, although different designs and positions can excite them differently.

In a difficult space, improving placement, acoustic treatment and measured EQ can matter as much as—or more than—the next speaker upgrade. Understanding the room helps you get more from the speakers you already own.

Life EQ measures at your listening position and applies correction toward a target. It works alongside physical improvements, especially where deep cancellations or long bass decay need more than an EQ adjustment.

Notice how some resonances grow while others recede as you move—even though the speaker has not changed. This is why the listening position matters.

01 / THE BUILD-UP

Some notes stay too loud.

Room modes are standing-wave patterns. At their pressure peaks, certain bass notes become more prominent than the rest.

02 / THE MISSING NOTE

Some places lose the bass.

At a cancellation, the same note becomes weaker. Moving the speakers or listening position can help; simply adding more EQ gain cannot reliably fill a deep null.

03 / THE CORRECTION

Measure where you listen.

Life EQ can reduce excess energy toward a target at the microphone position. Placement and acoustic treatment work alongside EQ to improve the room’s behaviour.
